Matthew Kern, MSN, FNP-C

Matthew Kern, FNP-C, has joined our Trauma Department at Bay Area Hospital. He is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with extensive experience in urgent care, critical care, and clinical leadership. His most recent role was as the Lead Provider at The Doctors Center Urgent Care, where he provided comprehensive primary, occupational, and urgent care services while supervising a team of physicians and nurse practitioners across four locations.

Matthew began his nursing career in 2004 after earning his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from West Texas A&M University. He gained early experience as an ICU and emergency nurse, including roles as a travel ICU nurse and leadership positions as Charge Nurse and Assistant Nurse Manager in critical care at Northeast Methodist Hospital. His expertise includes managing high-acuity patients in surgical and medical intensive care units, leading rapid response and code blue teams, and supporting system-wide process improvement initiatives. In 2017, Matthew completed his Master of Science in Nursing at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA. He was honored with the College of Nursing and Health Sciences Outstanding Graduate Student Award and was inducted into both Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Theta Tau honor societies.

His certifications include Family Nurse Practitioner certification through AANP, BLS, and advanced critical care training. With over two decades in healthcare —including experience as a firefighter and EMT—Matthew brings a deep commitment to patient care, clinical excellence, and leadership in advancing health outcomes.
